Sharon Zachariah

A very early acquaintanceship with classical dance forms – amongst others, Ballet from the age of 3 to 9 and later the South Indian classical Bharatanatyam – have made Sharon Zachariah acutely aware of the use of space and of the idiomatic boundaries of dance forms. A season’s work with the Compagnie Felix Rückert 2007 gave her an opportunity to intensify her understanding of the art of improvisation. Her improvisation reveals a subtle awareness of when and how to bend boundaries and sometimes even a defiance of formal definition: for dance is beyond words, it’s personal hieroglyphics, sensory and extra-sensory perception. Music translates, filters, transcreates through her body, her eyes, her soul.
